First Hero this month is the enigmatic SCOTT SUDBURY whose debut 'Static on my radio' is one of those cds that
I guarantee you will fall in love with on the first time that you play it.
Hailing from Memphis Tennesse in the good ole U.S of A Scott has recorded a cd
that shows a maturity in songwriting that is normally found on an artists fourth or fifth
release never mind their debut. His style of music owes a lot to the likes of Glen Burtnik,
Rick Springfield and Bryan Adams in his 'Reckless' period, where as Scotts' voice reminds me
of a cross between Rick Springfield, John Waite and Glen Burtnik.
It's an album that makes you sit up and take notice from the very beginning
as 'Static on my Radio' ( The bastard offspring of 'Kids wanna Rock' by Bryan Adams if ever I heard one)
Kicks in and proves that Scott was born to Rock 'n' Roll. This is rock 70s style, stripped back and raw and is
the cds heaviest moment. 'The Letting Go' on the other hand slows things down perfectly with its John Waite
'Missing You' style vibe and shows how easily he can go from style to style without losing any of his own
identity along the way. This is a cd that has something for everyone from the pure power pop
of 'Here I Go' to the Springsteen-esque 'Tonight', or how about the
Burtnik infused 'Me and the Memory of You' that could have been plucked straight
from his 'palookaville' cd. I must admit that this is a cd that has not been that far away
from my cd player since I recieved it and will probably be in my
top five of the year as I rate it that highly and if an amalgamation of Burtniks 'Palookaville',
Springfields 'Karma' and 'Reckless' by Bryan Adams does it for you then check out this cd immediately.
Copies can be ordered by going to Scotts' Website at http://www.scottsudbury.com, tell him Voltz sent ya. And if you want more info on Scott then checkout next issue for a full interview. Voltz Magazine November 2000 |
